Please find below a media release announcing a global partnership between Manugistics and BEA whereby Manugistics will offer its entire range of supply and demand chain management applications on BEA’s WebLogic Platform 8.1 software, which assists in integrating and managing enterprise applications.

This announcement has significant relevance to the local market, as Manugistics continues to expand its supply chain management and pricing and revenue optimisation customer base both in Australia and New Zealand.

BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 Chosen By Manugistics as Preferred Application Platform Suite

Leader in Supply and Demand Chain Management Selects BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 to Provide a Unified Services-Oriented Platform for Enhanced Productivity, Lower TCO and Faster ROI

SYDNEY, 5 August 2003 — BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS), the world's leading application infrastructure software company, and Manugistics (Nasdaq: MANU), a leading global provider of supply and demand chain management solutions, today announced that Manugistics has chosen BEA WebLogic Platform™ 8.1 as the preferred application platform suite.

Manugistics plans to offer its entire suite of leading supply and demand chain management applications on BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1– a unified, simplified and extensible software foundation for building, integrating, extending, and managing enterprise applications. Manugistics’ decision was based on a comprehensive review of many application infrastructure products on the market. By selecting BEA, Manugistics can provide customers the flexibility to support their unique business processes, while reducing costs, enhancing margins and increasing revenues.

By building Manugistics’ supply and demand chain management solutions on BEA’s award-winning application platform suite, Manugistics’ customers can simplify the integration between disparate applications and systems, gain faster time-to-value for critical projects and streamline interaction between employees, customers and partners. BEA WebLogic Integration™ 8.1 utilises WebLogic Platform’s reusable control architecture to help enable Manugistics the ability to leverage existing IT assets, and accelerate time-to-value of more complete solutions for its customers. Manugistics is also planning to use BEA WebLogic Portal™ 8.1 to provide a unified portal framework that can simplify, personalise and lower the cost of customer, partner and employee access to information, applications and business processes. The companies also plan to collaborate in joint sales and marketing programs, and shared access to technology roadmaps.

“By developing and deploying our applications on BEA’s unified platform, Manugistics can focus our engineering resources on new business services instead of the development and integration of architectural components from many vendors,” said Tim Moylan, managing director, Manugistics, Australia and New Zealand.

“This rapid solution assembly model, based upon a services-based architecture, will increase development and implementation productivity and allow us to rapidly deliver configured solutions targeting the specific business process requirements of customers.”

“In three years the next generation of enterprise applications, from CRM to supply chain, will all run on open systems and standards-based application platform suites,” said Rick Jackson, vice president of product and solutions marketing, BEA Systems.

“BEA and Manugistics believe this trend can simplify and reduce the cost of building, integrating and extending applications and business processes for our customers. Just by having a simplified, common development environment, such as BEA WebLogic Workshop, customers can increase development and application integration speed and flexibility compared to alternate technologies.”

BEA has established a leadership position in the market for application platform suites by converging what have traditionally been distinct software products. These products include application servers, integration and portal software, and development tools. BEA offers these capabilities individually and as part of BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 which integrates the industry-leading application server, BEA WebLogic ServerTM; an award-winning enterprise portal, BEA WebLogic Portal; an innovative integration solution, BEA WebLogic Integration; and a visual development environment, BEA WebLogic WorkshopTM.

The first Manugistics’ applications incorporating BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1 are scheduled to be available in early 2004.

If you are interested in speaking with Tim Moylan, MD of Manugistics, Australia and New Zealand, to discuss what this means for Manugistics and its customers in Australia and New Zealand, please do not hesitate to contact either Alex Hill or Julie Eubank on +61 2 9904 4533.
