CommWorks develops universal port technology

CommWorks Corporation is developing a universal port technology that allows service providers to use the same dial port to terminate voice, data and fax calls.

The company said the system can merge remote access functionality with specific voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) offerings.

Applications supported will include dial access, phone to phone voice support, real-time and store-and-forward fax, support for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for call control, and various back-end servers for functions like directory mapping and billing.

Trials of the system are schedule to begin shortly with availability of the product expected before the end of the year.
