Vodafone, Acclaim sign mobile games deal

Acclaim Entertainment has reached an exclusive agreement with Vodafone to provide mobile game content to Australia and 11 European markets covered by the U.K. cell phone operator.

Under the deal, Acclaim will offer its Urban Freestyle Soccer video game to customers of Vodafone's Live! mobile Internet service from the end of July, the Newbury, England, operator said Monday in a statement.

It will be the first ever video game to be available on a mobile phone prior to its release on a console, Larry Sparks, vice president of international marketing at Acclaim, said in the statement. Urban Freestyle Soccer will become available on Sony's Playstation, Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's Gamecube and PC in October, according to the statement.

In addition, Live! customers will be able to unlock exclusive areas in the console version of the game.

The mobile game version of Urban Freestyle Soccer is being developed to support a range of Live! handsets, including Sharp's GX10, GX10i and GX20 models and Nokia's 7650 and 3650 handsets.
