ACCC orders Telstra to improve NBN processes

Telstra is required to amend its processes and resubmit them within 40 business days

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has ordered Telstra to improve four processes to support migrating customers onto the National Broadband Network (NBN).

The processes, which are included in Telstra’s Migration Plan, include the disconnection of copper and HFC networks that have not been migrated to the NBN within the switchover period; building new copper lines for services not yet provided on the NBN; and protecting information so Telstra cannot use it to gain a competitive advantage.

“The ACCC issued this direction as it considers that Telstra’s proposed processes would not provide appropriate protections to consumers and competition during migration,” the ACCC said in a statement.

Telstra is required to amend the processes and resubmit them within 40 business days.

In November last year the ACCC sought comment on Telstra’s plans to migrate customers, including security measures around it receiving information from NBN Co’s to ensure it does not obtain an unfair advantage from information it receives from NBN Co.
