Queensland-based bank Suncorp Metway has announced it will set up a new call centre in Toowoomba.
The company said the call centre, which is due to start operation in January next year, will create 280 jobs.
Steve Jones, managing director for Suncorp Metway, said the new centre would enable the company to handle the growing demand from customers for telephone and Internet services.
"In the past year our call volumes have increased by 22 per cent to almost 400,000 calls a month," Jones said.
"Requests for information over the Internet, which are handled by call centre staff, have increased by 70 per cent since last July to almost 8000 a month."
