In a move to round out its portfolio of supply-chain management solutions, Manugistics Group Inc. announced plans Monday to begin reselling indirect procurement and settlement solutions from Clarus Corp.
Manugistics, which has traditionally focused on solutions that combine supply-chain management with pricing and revenue technology, will target the transportation, retail, manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, and government markets with the new Manugistics Networks eProcurement solutions. The offerings will be sold globally by the Manugistics sales force.
The alliance with Clarus enhances Manugistics' ability to provide customers with best-of-breed solutions to help reduce costs of not only direct materials but also indirect materials, said Greg Owens, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Manugistics. In addition, Clarus' strong track record of developing software products on the Microsoft .NET platform is important as Manugistics continues to build out its Microsoft-based offerings, he added.
Clarus' eProcurement software is designed to eliminate bottlenecks while stemming maverick spending for indirect materials within corporations. Manual tasks such as requisition approvals are automated, and employee purchasing is governed by business rules set up by procurement managers.
