Analysis by Google researchers has highlighted a spike in searches using smartphones and tablets during the first two days of the London Olympics.
According to the research, Japan experienced a 55 per cent mobile search volume spike during the first two days of the Olympics, closely followed by Australia (45 per cent) , South Korea (36 per cent) and New Zealand (27 per cent)
The research also found that European countries showed especially high mobile search volume, with most countries having one-third or more of their Olympics-related searches occurring on a tablet or smartphone. For example, in the host country, the United Kingdom, 46 per cent of Olympics searches occurred on a mobile phone.
In North America, the United States took gold in mobile traffic spikes with 47 per cent, followed by Puerto Rico (41 per cent), Canada (32 per cent) and Mexico (17 per cent)
