Telstra has backed away from reports it is on the verge of signing a significant internet TV deal with Oracle.
Oracle's outspoken chief Larry Ellison said earlier this week the software giant was "about to sign a huge deal with Telstra".
Both Telstra and Oracle have distanced themselves from Ellison's comments.
Telstra has been trialling internet TV internally and the next step is for commercial trials, the telco officials said.
"This trial would require the selection of a technology platform vendor," officials said. "However, at this stage, no vendor has been selected. Telstra is not about to provide any further details as to a timetable for any commercial rollout or what services may be provided," officials concluded.
Phil Kiely, chief of Oracle's Australian operations, confirmed the company had been conducting trials with Telstra. Those trials had "gone very well" but Kiely would not comment on any pending deals.
Telstra is already a "significant" Oracle customer, he said.
