PeopleSoft, Interwoven combine portal powers

PeopleSoft Inc. and Interwoven Inc. have formed an alliance to offer an enterprise portal solution designed to allow customers to develop and publish content with Interwoven's Content Infrastructure product suite and deliver it via PeopleSoft's portal solutions.

PeopleSoft offers pre-built portal solutions to deliver structured enterprise application content and unstructured creative content, such as HTML and graphics. By tapping Interwoven's content infrastructure capability, PeopleSoft has expanded its solutions to allow customers to more quickly and easily contribute unstructured content to their enterprise portals, officials said today.

The PeopleSoft/Interwoven integration is designed to allow users to more effectively develop, manage, and publish timely and personalized information across the enterprise through PeopleSoft's portal solutions. By allowing for more rapid development and deployment of content, the integrated solution will provide enhanced user productivity, lower support costs, and increased return on investment, officials said.

The joint solution is designed to meet market demand for context around portal transactions, said Greg Thompson, senior product strategist for PeopleSoft's portal solutions. For example, a user registering for employee benefits could also access the financial track record of a mutual fund offered or browse through company polices regarding those benefits, he said.

"Rather than just providing a single transaction ... the content management of Interwoven rounds out for that user what they are going to be deciding in that business process," Thompson said.

In addition, because the PeopleSoft information architecture maps business processes, companies do not have to restructure those processes to provide the added context, he said.

"We're providing the actual business uses for the applications themselves," Thompson said. "They're already there ... out of the box."

In related news, PeopleSoft announced last week its participation in Interwoven's PortalReady Program. As part of the program, PeopleSoft will leverage Interwoven's SDK (software development kit) to provide a development interface to support rapid portal implementations.
