A new "state-of the art" hosting centre in North Ryde was officially opened by Prime Minister John Howard yesterday.
The centre, opened by Equant -- which merged with Global One on June 29 -- adds a second site to Equant's capacity in Sydney, currently served by the global support centre located in Surry Hills.
Three other hosting centres have also been opened in the Asian region.
Both the global support centre and the hosting centre will combine resources and expertise to provide a full range of advanced application and hosting services, as well as global desktop and network management and assistance.
According to a spokesperson for Equant, the Sydney hosting centre gives businesses in Sydney and across Australia direct access to a full range of advanced application and hosting services, including Equant secure gateways, web hosting, co-location and a range of managed messaging services.
The new Sydney hosting centre is Equant's largest in the Asia-Pacific region, and is connected to the advanced Equant global network via high-bandwidth optic-fibre links to North America, Asia, Europe and a total of more than 220 countries and territories worldwide.
