PeopleSoft announced Monday that it has acquired the intellectual property and certain assets of Cohera, a catalogue management and content integration company.
PeopleSoft, in Pleasanton, Calif., plans to combine Hayward, Calif.-based Cohera's software with its own sell-side and buy-side collaborative applications to offer a solution designed to allow purchasing employees to create and manage sophisticated catalogues for buying and selling over the Internet, according to PeopleSoft officials.
Financial terms of the deal, which was closed in late July, were not disclosed.
For effective collaboration, enterprises need to easily integrate content from many different sources into applications, said Ram Gupta, PeopleSoft executive vice president of products and technology. But that has proved problematic for enterprises, he said.
But the combination of PeopleSoft's collaborative applications with Cohera's solution, PeopleSoft is setting a new standard in private trading exchanges, he added.
PeopleSoft continues to demonstrate it is adept at finding the right mix of partnerships, acquisitions, and internal development, said Bob Parker, an analyst at AMR Research in Boston.
The product content management capability acquired from Cohera earns PeopleSoft definite consideration for users interested in building a private trading exchange, whether or not they are existing PeopleSoft users, he added.
