Siemens secures ETT for smartcard solutions

Siemens has entered into an agreement with payment card solutions provider Electronic Transaction Technology (ETT), to provide smartcard solutions to financial institutions, banks and large retailers.

Under the agreement, ETT will be the marketing and sales channel for Siemens' secure chip card technology while Siemens will provide consulting, integration and project management.

In the future, hosted services will also be offered, Siemens said.

Siemens said the partnership will focus on the provision of secure chip card technology solutions arising out of the emerging requirements for EMV (Europay MasterCard Visa) compliance in Eftpos and credit card environments.

Applications earmarked for future targeting using the new chip card technologies include payments transactions and digital sign-on using smartcards as tokens.
