IBM, Siebel Systems tie up on eBusiness apps

IBM Corp. and CRM (customer relationship management) and e-business applications vendor Siebel Systems Inc. have made Siebel's line of eBusiness software available for IBM's eServer iSeries, the companies announced Tuesday.

The Siebel eBusiness Application software line was made available on OS/400 Version 4 Release 5 in the U.S. on Monday and in the U.K. on Tuesday, according to IBM U.K. spokeswoman Louise Cole.

A release of the Siebel software on the OS/400 Version 5 Release 1 is to be launched within the next two months, IBM and Siebel said in a joint statement.

Though the software/server tie up is aimed at small to mid-sized businesses, the Siebel software will be made available across the entire IBM eServer product line, the companies said.

San Mateo, California-based Siebel plans to launch its next version of the software line, eBusiness 2001, before the end of the year. The new version will allow users to generate more detailed forecasting reports and will seek to integrate various phases of customer interactions, according to the Siebel Web site.

The company will preview Siebel eBusiness 2001 at its Worldwide User Week conference in Chicago in early October, Siebel said.
