IBM GSA, EDS and CSC continue to dominate the Australian outsourcing market, according to IDC.
In its report, 'Australian IS outsourcing competitive positioning, strategies and capabilities', the three players were found to hold 72 per cent of the market.
However, Kathy Benson, IDC's senior analyst for outsourcing, believes the market is beginning to open up.
She said that although the top 10 outsourcers -- the other seven are Advantra, Compaq, Fujitsu, Unisys, Hewlett-Packard, KAZ Computer Services and Citec -- would remain in their current positions for some time, the doors were opening for new kinds of players, "not just the global organisations that traditionally dominate the outsourcing landscape".
IDC said the Australian outsourcing market grew to approximately $2.9 billion in 2000, an increase of 16 per cent over the previous year. It expects the market to reach $3.6 billion in 2001.
