Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) has begun promoting its network guarantee in an attempt to attract new customers.
The guarantee, which was launched nationwide on 4 December 2011, means post-paid customers can cancel their contract within 30 days if they are not satisfied with the telco’s network performance, and return the device and only pay for what they’ve used until the cancellation goes through.
According to a Vodafone spokesperson, the average return rate has been five devices per day.
The guarantee was first offered to South Australia and Canberra residents in September 2011. “The network guarantee has been well received in both areas with few returns,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
The telco is also marketing the guarantee to encourage customers to use its new 3G 850 megahertz (MHz) frequency network which has been rolled out as part of a 2G and 3G network upgrade . Vodafone has built more than 1000 new 850MHz 3G sites and installed new 3G and 4G-ready equipment at 4050 other sites.
VHA chief executive, Nigel Dews, said in a statement that the company has constructed more than two-thirds of its 850MHz network with completion expected in the third quarter of 2012.
In February 2012, VHA’s parent company, Hutchison Telecommunications Australia (ASX: HTA), reported a $167.7 million loss.
At the end of the year, VHA’s customer base was 7.0 million, down from 7.2 million at 30 June 2011.
