DataViz Inc. on Monday announced version 4.0 of its Documents To Go Professional Edition software for users of Palm OS-based handheld computers. Added in this latest version is the capability to edit Excel spreadsheets and view PowerPoint presentations.
Lifted from the previous version, 3.0, is the ability to create, view, and edit documents in Microsoft Corp.'s Word format. Users also already had limited Excel functionality in the previous version, according to DataViz.
"We added the PowerPoint viewer and beefed up the spreadsheet side. Over 110 spreadsheet-editing functions are now supported. This is the only single software package that supports Word, Excel and PowerPoint files," said Erin O'Connor, a spokeswoman for Trumbull, Connecticut-based DataViz Version 4.0 also adds support for memory extension cards that can be used with Palm Inc.'s m500 series handhelds. Additionally, the package includes DataViz's DocSync synchronization technology, which safeguards formatting aspects of documents when they are transferred between the handheld and the desktop system. DocSync was offered as a free update to Documents To Go 3.0 in May.
Palm Inc. will bundle its Documents To Go Professional Edition 4.0 with its Palm m500 series. The software will also be available from retail outlets by the end of August for US$69.95. International versions will also be available by the end of the month. Users who purchased Documents To Go 3.0 or a Palm m500 series can version 4.0 for free up to 30 days from their day of purchase.
