Telco workers win right to award

The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) has won the right to establish an award for the Telecommunications industry, excluding Telstra and Optus workers.

The Industrial Relations Commission has handed down its decision in Sydney.

The CPSU said its first priority will be to gain an interim redundancy award for the whole industry. Following this, the union will start negotiations for a comprehensive industry award.

The award will set out conditions for minimum wages, conditions of employment, 10-day sick leave, carers' leave and long service leave.
