Scitec scores with VoIP technology

Local networking outfit Scitec has secured a number of contracts for developing voice over IP technology for several international networking manufacturers.

Scitec has secured contracts worth around $750,000 and is due to announce other significant deals in coming weeks. Under the contracts, Scitec will carry out software and hardware design, develop and integrate a range of voice over IP products. Design aspects include voice compression and network interfacing.

The contracts are for around 12 months each, and a company spokesperson said he expected the agreements to continue after that period.

The spokesperson said Scitec did not normally do custom R&D work, but saw the contracts as an opportunity to license its technology before it went into Scitec's own products.

The contracts legitimised the company's move into the fledgling voice over IP market, the spokesperson said.
