ONI Systems extended its ONWAVE optical mux line with the addition of the ONWAVE OC-192 SONET/SDH add/drop multiplexer.
The new box features integrated STS-1 switching and optional dense wavelength division multiplexing.
The STS-1 switching and grooming function eliminates the need for stand-alone 10G bit/sec mux and ADM equipment, ONI says. The mux more than doubles the OC-48 density of ONI's ONLINE transport platforms and reduces power consumption, the company says.
The box can be used to deliver OC-48 traffic from an OC-192 POP to multiple locations in the metro area. In this application, the ONWAVE OC-192 functions as a cross-connect among access, metro and long-haul networks.
The ONWAVE multiplexer family currently includes an OC-48 SONET/SDH ADM, an OC-48 SONET/SDH mux and a two-port data mux module that supports Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel and FICON.
