IBM expands WA developer centre

IBM has expanded its Australian Programming Centre in Perth in return for $1.91 million in financial aid fromthe Western Australian Government.

IBM has pledged to create 84 new jobs for professional software developers at the centre over the next fiveyears, bringing its total workforce to 165 full-time professionals. IBM said exports from the centre areexpected to increase by more than $30 million in the same period as a result.

This fund top-up will make IBM's centre one of the largest employers of highly skilled software developers inWestern Australia, and add to its role as a significant exporter of software and services.

The centre focuses on developing, enhancing and maintaining industrial-strength software products for theworldwide mainframe marketplace, and providing technical support services.
