Computer Society fans special interests

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) has launched a special interest group (SIG) focusing on the specific needs of ICT contractors and consultants in NSW.

Similar groups already exist in Victoria and Queensland providing information and networking opportunities.

Michael McMullan, an independent consultant who has 28 years industry experience, will convene the NSWSydney-based forum.

The inaugural meeting focused on the issue of the Federal Government's controversial 80/20-taxation rule, whichdirectly impacts the way in which ICT contractors and consultants operate.

In addition to providing up-to-date information on issues affecting SIG members, McMullan said he is also keento develop a referral service to assist those seeking new positions.

"If people within the group become aware of jobs coming up where they're working, they'll be able to advertisethat within the group so that those with relevant skills can apply," he said.

Membership is free to ACS members, but non members working as ICT professionals can join for a small annualfee.
