Compaq multimillion dollar R&D centre heads for sunshine

Compaq has launched a multimillion dollar research and development facility on Queensland's Gold Coast to focus on software product development, specifically e-business technologies.

The $4.8 million research and development centre will employ 34 software professionals with provision for 5 per cent annual growth.

Paul Brandling, managing director, Compaq Computer Australia, said the facility will create valuable employment opportunities and become a catalyst for attracting hi-tech-related business to the Gold Coast.

He said solutions developed at the centre will be exported globally. It is part of a new IT precinct being developed in the area aiming to attract $100 million worth of investment to the sunshine state.
