Compaq has launched a multimillion dollar research and development facility on Queensland's Gold Coast to focus on software product development, specifically e-business technologies.
The $4.8 million research and development centre will employ 34 software professionals with provision for 5 per cent annual growth.
Paul Brandling, managing director, Compaq Computer Australia, said the facility will create valuable employment opportunities and become a catalyst for attracting hi-tech-related business to the Gold Coast.
He said solutions developed at the centre will be exported globally. It is part of a new IT precinct being developed in the area aiming to attract $100 million worth of investment to the sunshine state.
