Sydney wins Gartner's 2002 conference

It's bye-bye Brisbane, hello Sydney for the biggest IT conference on the Australian calendar.

Gartner Group next year will move its annual symposium and IT expo to Sydney after holding it in Queensland for the past nine years.

The conference regularly attracts 1000 to 2000 delegates and vendor representatives. The switch in venues reportedly was made after a survey found 95 per cent of delegates favoured Sydney.

As an indication of the symposium's strength at a time many IT conferences are folding or merging, this year's delegate count is down only about five per cent to 1670. A much higher percentage than usual of CXOs (CTOs, CFOs, CIOs and CEOs) are attending this year's event.

They make up about 24 per cent of delegate numbers compared with last year's 14 per cent said Gartner marketing manager for events Nicole Sharp.
