Online recruiter looks for quid pro quo from employers

Sometimes you can get something for [almost] nothing. TechProfiles Inc., an online recruitment company, wants to make an exchange with employers. In return for posting their available jobs with TechProfiles, companies will receive 60 days free access to TechProfiles' database of skills-assessed IT candidates.

"Prior to Sept. 11, our economy began slowing, and immediately following this tragic event, business took a big downturn for most companies. Having received more than 10,000 résumés in the past month, we decided to do our part in helping people get back to work," said Bill Batik, vice president of TechProfiles.

TechProfiles management doesn't see a problem even for those companies that post their jobs on the big boards. Job openings that appear on boards, such as Monster.com or HotJobs, or in print classified ads can direct candidates to apply through the TechProfiles' site, said Harold Lund, president of TechProfiles.

According to Lund, more than 400 companies have already signed up for the offer since the announcement.
