Looking to provide "a balanced approach to technical staffing," networking company Cisco Inc. Monday revealed a new channel partner program meant to encourage greater technical specialization among its partners.
The revamped program incorporates Cisco's specialization program with its channel partner program in order to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach, the company said in a news release.
The previous Cisco Channel Partner Program emphasized the general Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) certification, while the new one emphasizes Cisco's broader individual technical certifications like cable communications, security, network engineering and design or network installation and support.
Cisco intends to encourage resellers and distributors to develop expertise in particular aspects of networking with Cisco equipment, in order for partners to provide better service, the company said. As networking equipment has become more complex, channel partners benefit from developing expertise in specialized areas, Cisco said.
Nearly 90 percent of the company's revenue passes through the channel, according to Cisco.
