National ICT Australia (NICTA) has announced the appointment of Dr Bruce McCabe to drive the national body’s Cloud computing business strategy.

In a statement from NICTA, McCabe said the challenges associated with Cloud computing are only increasing and that he looked forward to dealing with these in the newly created position.

“The Cloud is now changing every aspect of how we think about software,” McCabe said. “Along with the enormous potential benefits come new challenges, especially for larger enterprises and government agencies.”

Most recently working as director of innovation at KPMG, McCabe said he was excited about tackling some tough issues, including data security.

“NICTA is at the forefront of developing technologies to not only capitalise on the opportunities but also tackle the thorny issues, like data security, resilience, and cost optimisation,” he said. “I am tremendously excited about this opportunity to develop a business that makes the most of this ingenuity and gives something back to Australia.”

Cloud has been top of mind for NICTA recently, with research leader, Anna Liu, saying that there are a number of security issues yet to be dealt with by C-level managers at CeBIT last week.
