Optus mobile business is set to swallow the Australian mobile business of ComVergent Telecommunications -- RSL Com Personal Communications (RCPC).
Under the terms of the agreement, 180 staff will be offered employment by the new Optus subsidiary, RSL Com Mobiles.
A spokesperson for RCPC said the rest of the company will "stay as it is".
Optus will acquire RCPC's mobile base of about 120,000 active customers and gain access to much of the company's retail distribution network of around 140 outlets nationwide.
Optus declined to comment on the dollar figure of the deal, which is expected to be finalised within the next month.
