NBN Co has awarded Service Stream (ASX:SSM) a contract to operate its call centre in the Melbourne CBD.
Service Stream provides services to the telecom and utilities industries including infrastructure design and management.
It has previously operated call centres for ACMA's do not call register, and the DBCDE's Digital Ready Hotline for advice on the switchover to digital TV.
NBN Co awarded the call centre contract through a six-month tender process, for which eight companies applied.
NBN Co general manager of external affairs, Trent Williams, said there is a growing interest among the public in the NBN rollout, as well as “how the technology operates and what it will mean for homes and businesses.”
The centre initially by staffed by around 12 people, but Williams expects staffing levels to grow significantly as rollout preparations progress. It will serve as the hub for all inbound calls about the NBN.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. SSM shares fell 5.45 per cent on Thursday to $0.520.
