Just when you thought handheld price wars were dying down, Compaq Computer jumped into the fray on Thursday, offering a US$50 rebate on its iPaq H3635.
But a $50 rebate doesn't go quite as far with the iPaq as it does with competing handhelds from Palm Inc. and Handspring Inc. After rebate, the H3635, with 32M bytes of RAM costs $550 directly from Compaq, the company said in a statement. In May, Handspring temporarily reduced the price of its Visor Deluxe from $249 to $199, while rival Palm respond by reducing its Palm VIIx from $299 to $199. Compaq is offering the rebate on devices purchased between July 15 and Oct. 31.
