Flaw: Word field codes and Excel external updates

Microsoft is reporting a flaw in the way Word's "field codes" and Excel's "external updates" functions work. The functions are normally used to link duplicate data in different files, so when the data is updated it one place, it is updated everywhere.

An attacker could exploit the vulnerability in this functionality to steal document or spreadsheet data without the user's knowledge.
