With more than 180,000 downloads of its iPhone app since late last year, real estate portal has spread its mobile development further with an app for Android announced today.

The company claims the move is a first for an Australian property portal. is also in the midst of a significant redevelopment project where its older Perl code base is being phased out by Java and Ruby on Rails.

Henry Ruiz, general manager of consumer experience and product marketing at said with Android increasing its market share (set reach 45 per cent by 2015, according to IDC) it’s natural for the company to enter the Android space.

“This is an exciting time for the business, as there is a growing need to provide property hunters with a choice of channels to help them search for property,” Ruiz said.

“Key features of the Android app include the ability to search for property to buy or rent, view property results via list or map view and even get directions to a property for open for inspections.”

The app allows searching by location, sending links via e-mail and contacting an agent directly by click-to-call or e-mail. for Android works with version 2.1 (or above) of the operating system and a handset with a screen resolution of 480 by 800 or higher.

The app is available for free from the Android Market.
