CBA launches mobile Eftpos

The Commonwealth Bank has launched a mobile Eftpos device enabling businesses to accept card payments using the GSM mobile phone network.

Called MobileComm, Nick Kennett, general manager, cards and financing products, predicts the solution will be the "market leading mobile EFTPOS solution".

The mobile terminal, based on the KeyCorp K78, has a built-in thermal printer and magnetic stripe card reader.

The bank said it will initially focus on installing the technology in transaction mobile businesses such as retailing, repairs and service-based businesses, as well as working with customers in the B2C and B2B markets.

The device will accept most cards, and transactions can be completed even if the system is down or a phone problem exists using a downtime processing feature.
