Alston retains IT, Govt dumps OASACS

New Federal Finance Minister Nick Minchin is now the man responsible for the Federal Government's outsourcing program, following the demise of the Office of Asset Sales and Commercial Support (OASACS).

Prime Minister John Howard announced today, during his speech naming his third ministry, that the OASACS would be abolished and its functions absorbed by the Department of Finance and Administration.

Senator Nick Minchin as been put in charge of this portfolio following the departure of John Fahey.

The OASACS was set up in the 2001-2002 budget, replacing the Office of Asset Sales and Information Technology (OASITO).

The Prime Minister also confirmed that Richard Alston would retain his ministry of Communications and Information Technology. He will also keep his position as Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate.

The swearing-in of the ministry will take place on Monday afternoon, November 26 2001 at Government House in Canberra.
