The company known as VA Linux Systems Inc. officially dropped the Linux from its name on Tuesday, becoming VA Software Corp.
Shareholders approved the name change at the company's annual meeting. The change is effective immediately, VA Software said in a statement.
The company's board of directors said the name change better identifies the company and its primary business, which is developing, marketing, selling and supporting the SourceForge collaborative software development platform. SourceForge is used to manage open-source projects and internal software development projects for corporations, the company said.
The Fremont, California-based software vendor stopped selling hardware based on the open-source operating system in July and in October asked shareholders to approve the name change.
