Every week, Computerworld Australia collates all the things our readers have been saying about the news, both in the forums and in comments.
Here’s what you had to say on: IPv6 and where Australian carriers are at
“Over the last couple of weeks, I've implemented IPv6 at home. I'm lucky because the DD-WRT firmware that I'm using on my ASUS Router supports IPv6 - though it's not just a simple turn it on and off you go.
This is mostly true because my ISP doesn't natively support IPv6. All my PCs have had IPv6 enabled and at http://test-ipv6.com/ I score a 7/10. The only reason I don't get 10/10 is that the DNS server I'm uses IPv4 but can return IPv6 address (this is very typical).
I heard recently that most ISPs still have enough unallocated addresses left to last another couple of years and this is why they aren't upgrading.” – said JohnnyB on IPv6: Where Australian carriers are at
Here’s what you had to say on: Brisbane council pioneering Microsoft Azure adoption
“I suspect the bigger reason for local Azure via provider is because the singapore azure cloud has poor connectivity (to practically everywhere except maybe singapore). I hope MS got some decent govt incentives to choose singapore because the singapore Azure service get's very poor bandwith results in comparison to other cloud providers.” – said Stig on Brisbane council pioneers Microsoft Azure adoption
Here’s what you had to say on: Telstra and Optus counting the cost of cyclone Yasi
“Meanwhile, vodafone remains unaffected - There had no service in regional Australia to begin with.” – said John on Telstra, Optus count the cost of cyclone Yasi
Here’s what you had to say on: iiNet to be one of the few to benefit from the NBN
“Not with the way they're treating Netspace customers at the moment, they won't. They've lost a lot of good will over the last couple of weeks with the forced downgrading of plans and the insulting emails that accompanied it.” – said Unhappy Camper on iiNet to be one of few to benefit from NBN: Malone
Here’s what you had to say on: Too early to gauge damage to NBN in Qld
“Conroy may be an idiot? But he's updating Australia's comms and separating the 800lb gorilla ...something Alston, Coonan and Co wouldn't even have known where to start or didn't dare to do.
So in comparison to these gutless idiots, Conroy looks a very intelligent idiot indeed.” – said RS on Too early to gauge damage to NBN in Qld
