Queensland’s floods may well have inundated much of Brisbane’s CBD and small businesses across the state, but rebuilding efforts are yet to see a strain on the local supply of servers, vendors report.
IBM, HP and Dell have all reported no shortages in their Australian supply of servers despite an estimated 15,000 businesses and homes in Brisbane being inundated alone at the floods’ peak.
An IBM Australia spokesperson said the company had not seen a sharp spike in demand for new gear, continuing to “meet all client needs” for replacement server hardware.
“We have prioritised the delivery of systems and storage equipment for Queensland customers and made available additional technical specialists to help our clients recover quickly from the crisis,” the spokesperson said.
“In addition, IBM is working with the Queensland Government and relief agencies to provide technology and expertise to support relief efforts.”
A Dell Australia spokesperson said they had not been made aware of any hardware shortages, adding that a number of employees had travelled to flood-affected areas to supply spare parts, hardware and to help where needed.
The company is also currently providing priority ordering and delivery where possible, and had set up a “priority support” team to help businesses affected by the floods.
An HP Australia spokesperson said there were presently no supply constraints across the company’s entire server portfolio.
The networking vendor community has also issued a similar response, with HP, D-Link and Cisco late last week also reporting no shortages of communications gear as a result of the present floods.
