Telstra expands hosting services

Telstra has expanded its hosting business to include Web site and e-business activities.

The telco has added new co-location, custom hosting, storage and anti-virus services to its existing hosting and streaming media portfolio.

The co-location services are aimed at reducing in-house Web site operating costs (bandwidth, staffing, security and around-the-clock operations).

Telstra's director product management, enterprise services, Paul Geason, said: "Telstra plans to provide a range of hosting solutions to meet customer needs and substantially increase its hosting market share by urging businesses to consider the pitfalls and costs of self hosting."

Telstra has designed a new Web site (www.telstra.com/hosting) that enables web-based self-activation for Web site hosting and information about Telstra's other hosting services.

"Telstra is particularly targeting self-hosting businesses that are operating a Web presence without the suitable bandwidth, security and around-the-clock monitoring that Telstra can offer from our business grade Internet data centres in Sydney and Melbourne," Geason said.
