Telstra Foundation appoints new chairman

Retiring Telstra (ASX:TLS) executive, Geoff Booth, will take over as chairman of the Telstra Foundation charity fund from 1 January

Telstra (ASX:TLS) has appointed Geoff Booth as the new chairman of charity fund the Telstra Foundation.

Booth will replace Herb Elliot, who has been chairman of the foundation since 2003, on January 1.

The recently retired Booth spent 38 years at Telstra, in roles including group managing director of Telstra Country Wide, and has had a presence on the board of the Foundation since 2007.

“Retirement has given me the time to dedicate to setting the agenda for the Telstra Foundation for the next decade,” he said.

The Telstra Foundation was founded in 2002 and provides funds for projects aimed at helping children, including improving education for indigenous children and cybersafety.

It has granted around $35 million on 6,280 projects since its inception.

TLS shares ended Wednesday's trading 0.72 per cent lower at $2.770. The price has been in decline all week.
