NewSat scores $3m worth of satellite deals

Satellite company NewSat (ASX:NWT) has secured $3m worth of deals to provide communications services for the US military and several major resource projects

Satellite operator NewSat (ASX:NWT) has signed $3 million worth of new deals to provide communications services.

NewSat signed four contracts worth up to $2.4 million to provide satellite services to US military troops in southern Afghanistan.

The company has also secured deals worth over $600,000 to support resource projects such as the Gorgon natural gas project in Australia.

Service delivery out of the NewSat Perth and Adelaide teleport facilities will commence immediately, the company said.

NewSat has now signed over 100 deals worth over $5 million in the current financial year, including with Amstar Communications, the Australian Defence Force and Nixon Communications.

NewSat is gearing up to launch the Jabiru-1 satellite in 2012.

The company said it has already pre-sold much of the capacity on the Jabiru-1, and expects the craft to generate $1.5 billion in revenue over its 15-year lifespan.

In response to demand for Jabiru-1, NewSat has commissioned a new craft, Jabiru-2, which is scheduled to be in orbit by early 2013.

NWT shares closed flat at $0.006 during Thursday's trading.
