The launch of an “improved” My School 2.0 website has been delayed until early 2011, following concerns from a number of schools regarding their financial information.
The website, which compares the literacy and numeracy scores of different schools, was unveiled in January by then education minister, Julia Gillard. The resource was scheduled to be updated this month to make it more comprehensive and accurate.
The update to the site was also intended to include additional information about about growth in student achievement and schools' financial data.
However, education minister, Peter Garrett, this week announced a delay in lieu of further consultation with independent schools regarding their financial information.
In preparing for the launch, the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has been commissioned to conduct the validation process, following recommendations from consulting firm Deloitte.
Deloitte identified a number of circumstances which could lead to the posting of inaccurate recurrent income for independent schools. Deloitte will continue to review a more apt method of reporting school financial information.
Schools will also be given the opportunity to review information as it would appear on the website.
