BEA Systems has made 13 staff redundant, 11 in Australia and two in New Zealand.
The local layoffs follow an announcement made by the company last week in the US, that it will cut 9 to 10 per cent of its 3000 employees by year-end.
Brad Jose, human resources manager, BEA Systems Australia, New Zealand said the company has been realigning the business recently and has been looking at local restructuring as well as focusing on growth going forward.
"Those made redundant were from various areas of the company including sales, professional services -- consultants, pre-sales. The main part of the organisation has been hit," Jose said.
Jose said the company has no plans for further lay offs this year.
"We certainly hope there'll be no more [layoffs] before the end of the year. There are no more planned" Jose said.
BEA Systems, as well as announcing plans for lay offs, warned its profits and revenues for the fiscal third quarter, ended October 31, would be lower than expected due to the weakening economy.
