Balfour replaces Burden as Qantas CIO

Fiona Balfour, previously Qantas group general manager of e-business has been appointed as the airline's new chief information officer.

Balfour, who has been with Qantas for 13 years, worked as a contractor for the company for three years before joining on a full-time basis. She has 22 years IT experience in strategy, planning, IT architecture and systems delivery in aviation and other commercial fields. She will report to Qantas chief financial officer Peter Gregg.

Balfour replaces the former Qantas general manager of technology and services, David Burden who managed the company's IT, purchasing and property divisions. Burden had been with the company since 1995. Refusing to say why he left, a Qantas representative said: "All I can tell you is that his departure was by mutual agreement."
