RIM PlayBook to come pre-loaded with Kobo e-book app

E-readering service will come with the tablet

Global e-Readering service, Kobo, will be preloaded on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet.

The company made the announcement during BlackBerry DEVCON 2010, where Research in Motion (RIM) founder and co-CEO, Mike Lazaridis, unveiled the PlayBook and BlackBerry Tablet OS during his keynote address.

However, local pricing and availability for the new RIM tablet remain unclear.

Kobo will provide access to a store of more than 2.2 million books. Kobo has also announced plans for an industry-first social e-Readering application that will run on the new BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) social platform.

"We are thrilled to be extending our extensive relationship with RIM into the tablet space," Kobo CEO, Michael Serbinis, said in a statement.

RIM has made several announcements recently, including an analytics service for developers with Webtrends.
