ACA registers two new telco codes

The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) has registered two new telecommunications industry codes of practice.

The codes cover the database that contains all listed and unlisted public telephone numbers, and the emergency call service obligations of carriers and carriage service providers.

ACA chair Tony Shaw said the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) code strengthened principles for the operation of the database to ensure adequate protection of customer information stored in it and applies to all carriers, carriage service providers and public number director producers.

The IPND is an industry-wide database of all listed and unlisted telephone numbers.

The Emergency Call Services Requirements code provides advice to carriers and carriage service providers to help them understand and meet their obligations in relation to the emergency call service.
