The new portal is aimed at pushing out "essential" information

The Federal Government’s has rolled out social media services and an iPhone app for its business.gov.au portal aimed at pushing out “essential” information and resources to the business community and public.

The new services include a Facebook page allowing users to post comments and questions on the site’s official wall, participate in its regular polls, and view photos of the latest business.gov.au events.

The site also includes a business.gov.au Twitter link, an email update service, a content syndication service for Australian websites and an RSS news service.

The new iPhone app pushes business.gov.au related news to users and also features a search tool to look up Australian Business Number (ABN) information.

The app also features a general news feed and information on licences and registrations, taxation, employment, home-based business, importing and exporting.

Comment is being sought from the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research on the new initiative.
