Australian enterprises will be the testbed for a new Internet services offering from global giant PricewaterhouseCoopers.
PwC has partnered with Sun Microsystems, Microsoft and advertising agency BAM SSB to create Determinet, a "centre of expertise for Internet technologies".
Determinet will focus on application development and Internet strategies, said PwC's senior managing consulting services partner Fred Balboni.
It will combine PwC's technology and integration skills with product expertise from Microsoft and Sun and BAM's marketing communication sills, he said. It is likely PwC will appoint additional partners, Balboni said.
BAM SSB, the local arm of global advertising firm Dentsu, is supplying creative and media advice to Determinet. BAM's role in Determinet is to provide online communications expertise.
"Marketing and communications are not our core competency and to represent that to the marketplace would have been putting lipstick on a pig," said Balboni.
"We recognised that in order to bring together solutions we need strong expertise in technology, strong expertise in media and marketing and strong expertise in integration," Balboni said.
Nine global solution delivery centres, including centres in Melbourne and Sydney, will work "around the clock" to provide solutions for Determinet's clients, Balboni said.
PwC is already providing similar services to existing clients, including those in finance, retail, utilities and government, Balboni said.
PwC is "currently determining" the viability of an early 2000 launch for Determinet in Europe and the US, Balboni said.
Earlier this year, Cisco announced a $US1 billion investment in consultancy KPMG to form a venture that advises companies on how they can take advantage of the internet.
