Compaq, CheckPoint unveil security product

Compaq Computer Corp. unveiled a Linux-based Proliant server Wednesday, containing built-in VPN (virtual private network) and firewall security software from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. and Rainfinity Inc., targeting the turnkey package at medium-sized and large businesses.

The Compaq/Check Point SolutionPaq bundles Check Point's VPN-1/FireWall-1 software with Rainfinity's RainWall-S high-availability firewall software on Compaq ProLiant ML330 and DL320 servers, the companies said in a news release. The servers run on a security-hardened version of the Linux operating system from Red Hat Software Inc.

Compaq's security package will be available in May as a single part number to resellers through Ingram Micro Inc. as well as Compaq DirectPlus direct sales service, with end-user prices beginning at approximately US$5,500 for the complete bundle of hardware, software and services, according to the release.
