Ciena continues local hires

The company has appointed Simon Barnard as account director to look after customers in southern regions By staff

Networking company, Ciena, continues to hire staff to oversee its Australian and New Zealand operations, appointing Simon Barnard as its new account director for the southern region.

Barnard will take immediate responsibility for the company’s existing customer accounts in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania, including the likes of VERNet and Nextgen Networks.

Previously, Barnard held senior positions with US-based Ethernet developer, Extreme Networks, Cisco Australia, Lucent, and was among the original founders of Nextgen Networks.

Barnard joins Stephan Wagner, who was appointed as account director for the northern region last month as Ciena attempts to secure contracts relating to the National Broadband Network, or an equivalent, to launch its local operations.

In March, Ciena acquired the Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN) portion of the floundering Nortel for $US775 million.
