In brief: Datacom chief, Michael Browne, passes

Group chief executive officer dies of a sudden heart attack during a mountain bike ride at the age of 47

Datacom group chief executive officer, Michael Browne, has died over the weekend at the age of 47.

According to a statement issued by the company, Browne suffered a major heart attack during a mountain bike ride.

“It is tragic that Michael has been taken from us in the prime of his life," Datacom chairman, John Holdsworth, said in a statement. "His business skills, energy, commitment and passion made him a fine leader and he will be greatly missed."

Browne left his wife and three children behind, as well as an 18-year career at Datacom that spanned a number of different positions.

Browne has been company chief for some time, but was recently promoted to group chief executive officer.

The company, which posted a 9.5 per cent increase in revenue for its financial year to 31 March, recently made news over problems in its Melbourne data centres following storms in the city.
