As part of a restructuring effort, The Coca-Cola Co. said Wednesday that it has cut 140 IT jobs, or about 14 percent of its IT workforce.
Coca-Cola spokeswoman Racquel White said the 140 jobs were cut from its corporate IT staff, which is based in Atlanta. Before the cuts, the company employed 750 IT workers in Atlanta and 250 worldwide, White said.
The IT department handles all IT needs for the company including telecommunications, data warehousing, data collection and help desk, she said.
White said the reorganization, which will more closely realign IT with the company's business needs, has been in the works since Coca-Cola's new CIO came on board in February.
She said the focus of the IT department will now be on projects that affect customers, rather than internally focused projects.
